Start with your situation

This selection only helps you navigate this guide. It does not determine medical urgency, legal entitlement or insurance coverage.

Where should I go?

General practitioner: common health concerns and ongoing care. Specialist: check referrals, new-patient acceptance and insurer contracts. Out-of-hours medical service: a sudden problem outside regular opening hours. Emergency department: acute hospital assessment. For immediate danger to life, call 155 or 112.

How insurance changes the process

EHIC supports medically necessary care during a temporary stay under Czech conditions; present your EHIC or provisional certificate and ID. For Czech public insurance, check your fund and provider contract. With private or travel insurance, contact assistance services before non-urgent care. Nationality alone does not determine payment.

What to bring

Bring identification, your insurance card or EHIC, insurer assistance contact, any referral and a way to pay if requested. Keep medication (active ingredient, strength and dosage), allergies, relevant diagnoses, reports, results and questions ready. This checklist does not save data to your account.

What usually happens at an appointment

Book and verify the language, acceptance, insurance and any referral. At check-in present identity and insurance. Explain the timeline, medication, allergies and relevant history. Ask about the next steps, then keep reports, prescriptions, results and proof of payment.

Medication and language support

A pharmacy is called Lékárna. Brand names, availability, foreign-prescription rules and co-payments can vary—verify them with a pharmacy or authority. English may not be available everywhere: confirm language when booking and use a qualified interpreter where appropriate. Galenio supports communication but does not guarantee understanding.
